I can understand NASA's extreme obsessiveness in avoiding anything which even remotely smacks of something which can induce the Giggle Factor. However, I don't understand why they simply won't come out and admit that even in the new, super high resolution orbiter photos that feature can still look like a face with the right combination of Sun and camera angles.

Instead, they post worst-case images which don't even look like the old Viking orbiter images, and say "See! See! We were right all along!" while trying to surreptitiously push under the furniture those images where the hill does look like a face.

Instead of avoiding the Giggle Factor, they're encouraging conspiracy theorists.

I've noticed the insanity of their "dazzle them with BS" explanations. They dont seem to have learned anything from the Air Force's lame attempts to do the same that only fan the Roswell flames. I.E. "The Final Report" "Oh yesser folks! We were lying this whole time to keep quiet a weather baloon project, despite all the components being something our one and only nuke base at the time would be using on a daily basis, and also to cover up another project dropping parachute dummies. -And please ignore that THAT project would not exist for another 5 years from that date..."
If they are trying to keep the sheeple quiet, they could at least come up with better cover stories. -No matter what the truth, if any, is. I'm almost ashamed to be under a governemt that cant come up with a better idea than blatant photoshopping...
