Finally finished digging out the weed roots in my flower bed. Just hope I went deep enough. I couldn't get down far enough into the hard-packed clay to get all of some of the roots. At least, not for the amount of effort I was willing to expend. Once I got much past three feet below the surface I just cut or broke the roots off.

With the digging done, I put the upper plant parts I had left in my driveway to dry for several days into the hole, then covered that with dirt. This will hopeful]y compost the plant material and also help with the drainage.

I still need to reapportion much of the dirt, but at least now there are no gaping pits.
