Found out why my water heater's pilot light kept going out. Left the viewport cover off because I was having to relight so often, and never had it go out. Put the cover back on yesterday and today the pilot went out. Note that this thing isn't supposed to affect air circulation, just cover the tiny glass viewport and where the pipes go into the tank.

That sounds like there are some blocked holes or something somewhere.

Apparently, this was just a coincidence. Since I posted the original message, the pilot has gone out several times, with the plate on or off. If it follows the usual pattern, I'll have this problem for a few days, then it will stay on for months.

No idea what is going on.
