China's plans to extend the world's only commercially operating magnetic levitation railway have run into a snag. People in the area of the planned extension are protesting, fearing noise and exposure to "electromagnetic radiation."

"Electromagnetic radiation," eh? Sounds like someone read "electromagnets" and got more than a little confused. Unless they're concerned that the waste heat produced by the magnets will bake their brains.

As for the noise, isn't one of the benefits of maglev over wheeled railways that they're inherently quieter?
