Late Nights, Early Mornings

That's two mornings in a row something has gotten me out of bed early. Yesterday the phone rang, with nobody there. This morning I got up to use the bathroom, then had trouble getting back to sleep. Just as I was drifting off, Ringtail started meowing.

He does this. He's learned to give a distress call (though not a serious one; more like a cat who wants some attention from his mother, rather than a cat in real trouble) for no reason. Even though his only reward is me (less often lately) checking on him.

So, I'm groggy.

A Matter of Language

I heard on a radio news program about a protest against efforts to criminalize illegal immigration.

Uh, isn't that too late? I mean, it's illegal, so those who do it are criminals, many of them already convicted, exported and back for another try.

I have great sympathy for those who enter the US legally to work, whether they become citizens or are only here temporarily. I have very little for those who can't be bothered to follow the rules. And none for those who protest in outrage when they're caught.
