A Matter of Language

stickmakerI heard on a radio news program about a protest against efforts to criminalize illegal immigration.
Uh, isn't that too late? I mean, it's illegal, so those who do it are criminals, many of them already convicted, exported and back for another try.
I have great sympathy for those who enter the US legally to work, whether they become citizens or are only here temporarily. I have very little for those who can't be bothered to follow the rules. And none for those who protest in outrage when they're caught.
