Cats; Who Needs 'Em?
Feb. 28th, 2022 09:25 amAt 3:45 (Yes, AM!) I was awakened by a prolonged crash in the basement. I lay awake for a while, but there were no further noises. However, I decided to investigate, anyway, and good thing I did.
On entering the basement the only thing I noticed wrong was a paper bag on the floor in one corner. Looking closer, I found it was most of a large, brown paper bag, the type with twine handles. One handle and the paper around it were missing. I made a circuit of the basement. I saw two of my cats, but not the third and youngest. She's solid grey, and I named her Nuisance for a good reason.
There she was, in the last corner I checked, up on my workbench. Unharmed, as far as I could tell, but with that twine handle around her neck, wearing the brown paper which was attached like an off-the-shoulder cape! I held her in place with one hand, got a pair or scissors out of the workbench drawer and cut the twine. I petted her a while then put her on the floor.
I took the cut handle and paper, grabbed the rest of the bag and cut that handle for good measure, and put the ruined mess by the basement door for recycling in the morning. Then back to bed.
