Feline Fragility
Oct. 26th, 2005 09:12 amThought for a while this morning I had lost a cat. I checked and made sure, last night, that both my current felines were inside before closing the cat door to keep the raccoons out. This morning, Motley came immediately when I called "Food!" but there was no sign of Ringtail.
Ringtail has been rather sluggish, lately, and I knew he wasn't feeling well, though he didn't show signs of being actually sick. He was also more active yesterday, so I figured he was over what was ailing him. But now I couldn't find him.
I searched the basement twice, and upstairs once, even looking under my bed. Nope. I made a mental note to check under the back porch (where the cat door is) on my way to the car, in case he had managed to sneak by me between the time I saw him lying on the bed and when I closed the cat door. I was starting to worry that I'd find him dead outside following a cold night, or dead in some odd corner, somewhere inside.
As I took my breakfast dishes into the kitchen, there he was, happy to see me. His fur wasn't even cold, as it would have been if he'd just come inside. No idea where he was, unless he was under the bed behind something, and simply not responding to my calls.
