Okay, the Subject is somewhat misleading. :-)
The cold water on my bathroom sink started dripping Thursday. I discovered that the threaded collar which holds the cartridge in place was so corroded that it wouldn't apply enough pressure. I have multiple plumbing parts, but nothing for that specific fixture. Lowes' likewise had nothing. I bought an entire new bathroom faucet for $35. Finally got it on this (Sunday) afternoon.
There were a few minor problems. For one thing, the large sheet of printed instructions said to use plumber's putty. The tag on the assembly said not to use any putty or tape or such; that the fixtures were designed to seal with just the pressure from tightening. I assembled the fixture without putty or tape and it works fine with no leaks. (So far.)
The new fixture arcs up and over instead of coming straight out, so I now have more room in the small basin to wash my (above average size) hands. :-) It also swivels.
Oh, and that small basin - chosen because there just isn't a lot of space in my bathroom - meant having problems reaching stuff to loosen the old and tighten the new. I got 'er done, though!
The kit came with a drain, but since the old one still works fine I just left all that alone.
Leaving the cabinet door open to disperse WD-40 fumes and dry what dripped water didn't wipe up. Will check for leaks again later.
