Jun. 1st, 2006 10:04 amAbout three months back I read a posting by a guy who claimed he was a aircraft mechanic in the US Armed Forces. He knew he'd probably get in trouble for what he was writing, but it that helped publicize the problem it would be worth it.
He and other mechanics were being ordered to do too much in too little time with too few resources, including proper spare parts. And if it kept up people were going to die.
Within the past couple of weeks I have heard about a US helicopter in Iraq crashing on a test flight after repairs. And now a truck lost its brakes and crashed into Iraqi cars, killing a bunch of people and sparking a riot.
So far, no word on the actual cause of whatever failure caused either problem. Little word on related accidents. But it's almost a sure bet there's more of them coming.
