Fictional Turnaround
Sep. 3rd, 2019 08:58 pmWhat if the monster from "Who Goes There?"/The Thing/The Thing From Another World weren't a crew member of the crashed alien craft, but a pet or biological specimen?
As just one example of how a pet could be hazardous, ordinary hogs escaped from farms become dangerous boars. So, the pet is suddenly left without its masters and shoved into a strange, hostile environment. Long-dormant instincts manifest, and it behaves not only in a hostile manner, but begins trying to reproduce.
Poor Thing... :-)

"Who Goes There?" and Sturgeon's "Killdozer" are perhaps *the* classic "base under siege" stories.
