I have to say, given all the givens of what it is, and even with half the damn film being narrated... it's surprisingly effective. The core idea is really neat, and the zero-budget growing white desolation effect is actually legitimately kind of creepy. Well done, zero budget filmmakers!
The near-realtime storytelling really does it a lot of favours. There's a lot of stock footage in here, but since it's being used to stay on the clock rather than lengthen the film, it... really kind of works.
Also, the guy whose wife is due to give birth today? That's Colonel Green, from that Star Trek episode with President Lincoln.
