stickmakerI wonder how the early issues of the original X-Men comic might have fared if the model for Beast had been Monk Mayfair from the Doc Savage pulp stories. They were close in the very first stories, with the original portrayal (cigar-chomping, crude, patterned after Ben Grimm).
If, instead of later making him a scholarly brain, they had left him crude but a brain, would that have worked better?
