Bad Night (And Morning)
Mar. 30th, 2014 10:09 amStarted getting clumsy at gaming last night, and by the time I got home I was so tired I had trouble getting out of the car. Couldn't figure out what was wrong until my gut started acting up after I went to bed.
Before that, though, the water went off.
As I made the turn onto the bridge over the Kentucky River (the neighborhood entrance I used was just past the end of the bridge) I saw two local police cars doing Code 3 towards downtown, and wondered what was going on. I got home and ran water to make tea for evening snack and medication. I noticed the water pressure was low. When I went to rinse out the cup it was much lower. A short time later it was nonexistent. In fact, it was negative, with air sucking into the faucet.
They've recently had problems with a water main - specifically, a valve - downtown, and this is the pipe which crosses the River to come into (among other places) my neighborhood. I sighed and went to bed.
I woke a little after Three to take some stomach medicine (with soda, since the water was still off) and checked the local community access channel. There was a boil water advisory for my community. Shortly after that the water came back on, with lots of coughing and sputtering. Once the stream was steady, I filled a large pot, brought it to a boil, put a lid on and turned off the heat.
I got up once about an hour later to dip some water out, put ice in the still warm fluid and drink some. The ice maker was off due to enough ice, so it was all from pre-break.
Wanted to sleep in this morning, but a little before Eight my UPSes started beeping. Yep; power was out, for about fifteen minutes. Managed to get back to sleep after the power came back, but fitfully and finally woke about my usual getup time.
Shortly after Nine the power went off *again*, also for about fifteen minutes.
I know, my problems are trivial compared to, say, those of people in Syria. I'm annoyed and sleepy (gut settled down after medication last night, though I still have no appetite) and probably cranky. At least I have power and water (though the boil water advisory is still in effect.)
If this seems disjointed and even out of sequence, blame the lack of sleep.
