I just heard on the news some Congresscritter (wish I'd caught her name) state flatly that carbon dioxide was harmless because it is a natural substance. She further stated that it was completely non-toxic.

Uh-HUH. Someone needs to watch _Apollo 13_ or any number of submarine movies.

Update: I reheard the segment and it was Michele Bachmann speaking on Earth Day in 2009.

It's the usual problem. They don't grasp that *everything* has a range othe harmfulness. Too little can be bad, so can too much.

As an example, with CO2 too little could kill you (though that's *really hard to pull off). Y'see it's what triggers the breathing reflex. Not enough and your body won't remember to breathe.

Water is toxic in high enough doses. Water intoxication. Not at all fun, either. I did it once. Long story. Worse than any flu...
