Something confuses me. Why do the instructions for my new windows have the line "Do not store vinyl windows in direct sunlight."? They're windows! They're going to be in direct sunlight for decades!

Because when they are in use as a window they have the structure of your house to keep them from deforming. When stored they have just the vinyl which will deform from the heat.
