Anyone who read this remember the old wet box soda bottle dispensers? Supposedly, they gave you the coldest soda, due to the chilled water they hung in.

I suspect I know what you are talking about, but the ones I saw never had water in them. They went away rapidly, at least as *outside* units like most had been, when some kids figured out that you could pop the top on the bottle and use a long straw to drink the pop.

Where I grew up that trick was discovered (or migrated in from an outside source) in the mid 60s.
