Ow... Ow... Ow...
Mar. 11th, 2015 05:03 pmDuring the recent bad weather I noticed one limb crossing another 'way up in the Chinese chestnut in my front yard. This afternoon I got out ladder and pruning equipment.
First I had to trim my way through the volunteer wild rose around the trunk. Then I had to try several different angles before I could actually cut the thing where I wanted. Then, when I was almost through, the limb shifted and bound the saw. After several futile tries with a rope and weight (just too much stuff in the way to get the right limb) I managed to wiggle the saw free. Then I had to cut it into pieces in the tree to get it down.
Once that was done I had to cut it into lengths acceptable to the local waste collection system. With the pruning saw switched from the telescoping pole to a short handle I set to work. I immediately had an accident when a branch I expected to take 9 to 10 cuts parted in three. I whacked myself in the leg when the saw unexpectedly went through. It caught me diagonally across my right leg, below the knee..
After a bit of medical care, I finished, and the stuff is piled up beside the road. I managed to avoid major trauma, but have multiple perforations from the rose thorns and the saw.
Ow... Ow... Ow...
Will, check when I get my allergy shot tomorrow to make certain my tetanus booster is up to date.
