stickmaker: (Rod2Wolf)
I've been wanting a new cat since Motley (my 15 year old queen) died a month and a half ago. Even my remaining cat - Michael, who is about 7 - has been acting lonely, and demanding attention from me. I was planning to go to a local no-kill shelter near my vet.

As I was talking to someone on my front porch about two hours ago (roughly 12:30 this afternoon) a calico - perhaps two months old - ran across the lawn, jumped onto the porch and began sniffing at me. I petted her as I talked to the salesman. Within minutes, a brown kitten (presumably her brother) joined us.

I sat on the porch and played with the two kittens for a while after the salesman left, then held the storm door open. Both came inside with only a little hesitation. I let them explore upstairs for a while, then took them into the basement, where Michael hadn't touched the canned food I put out this morning. They quickly cleaned that up and started on the dry. (Their bellies were already about half full when I was petting them on the porch.)

I played with them in the basement off and on for a while, doing some laundry in the process.

I made several trips up and down, and eventually they figured out the stairs. The brown male (Concolor) came up first and into my office where I was working on the computer. Patches (the calico) soon followed. Not long afterwards they learned the joys of the waterbed.

I can tell Con is going to be trouble. :-) He's very vocal, and likes to go into another room and call to see if I respond. My training is coming alone nicely.

I am staying home from gaming tonight. Not only do I need to keep an eye on the kittens until they learn their way around, I need to be here when Michael returns. I hope the introduction goes smoothly.

Right now, they're both kittened out and resting on the bed.
