Welcome to the Dark Ages
Apr. 22nd, 2012 07:20 pmMy cable went out a bit after Noon Saturday. That included both the TV and the Internet access. The TV channels came back after about an hour. However, the Internet is *still* out.
This morning I focused on getting my old iMac connected via my reserve dial-up (it's still running Snow Leopard; Lion disabled recognition of Apple's own USB modems, though for some reason other USB modems may still work; I will look into getting one of those later). With that out of the way, I called my service provider. They didn't even know I'd lost service.
We tried several things - some of which I had already done - with no success. Baffled, he forwarded it to the appropriate department (I think someone has to actually come out and check the pole, and maybe come inside and check the modem) and we'll see.
It's not my Ethernet router. I can still use that to copy files and etc. over the LAN. I also tried going directly from the cable modem to the laptop via the Ethernet sockets on both and a short cable. No dice. Everything has been power cycled, more than once. The lights on the cable modem are doing what they usually do. Since the TV was also out for a while the problem is likely either software in the office, or something messed up on the pole.
