Don't Mess With Me ;-)
Oct. 31st, 2007 10:06 amWent shooting again yesterday. Normally, to make the trip to the range worthwhile I take at least two guns, and often more. This time I only took one, but I did three types of shooting with it.
First, I tested point of aim and consistency from the bench with several types of ammunition. Then I did some self-defense drills with silhouette targets. On my first double-tap drill, the first shot (from about ten meters) not only went into the ten ring, but was touching the X. I laughed, and wondered out loud if I should quit right then. I didn't, and while subsequent drills weren't as impressive I did very well. Nearly every shot out of about seventy was in the silhouette, and most were in the torso. About half were in the seven ring or higher. So if I ever have to shoot in self defense I know the first round will probably hit home and there's little chance of subsequent shots endangering bystanders.
The third task was to function test and target test some of my handloads. They not only functioned 100% but were more accurate and consistent that the factory reloads I tried earlier.
All-in-all a good hour at the range. The gun was an HP-35 in .40 S&W, using six different ten-round magazines. Every single round fed and fired. Except for the problem of stinging my trigger finger (which I've heard from at least one other person happens with .40 guns for some reason) this is rapidly becoming a favorite.
