Wood Boring

I have an ex-Long John Silvers wooden bench (part of their original decor) on my front porch. I noticed a pile of sawdust under the far edge of it this morning, and found a neatly-bored hole, a bit over half a centimeter across, in the edge, going straight into the bench seat. I didn't see anything in the hole, being unwilling to stick my face up to what may be a wood-boring bee's nest.

Does that seem to be the creator of the hole to those who may be more familiar with their work? The hold must be pretty deep, 'cause that's an impressive pile of sawdust. It can't have been there long, either, because the sawdust is pretty obvious and looks fresh. Maybe a couple of weeks at most.

If it is wood boring bees, what do I do about them? Are they a threat to my (aluminum clad but wood frames) house? I haven't noticed any other suspicious piles of sawdust, but will check more thoroughly later.

Is there a wrong way to hang an Escher print?
