MarCon!

I had a good convention, even though I slept through much of it. (I'd just gotten over a mild virus and was still finding myself easily fatigued, plus allergies were bad.)

I never actually got to meet the media guest of honor, Kevin Sorbo, but at one point a crowded elevator opened and Sorbo, standing at the front, grinned at me and said "Going up?" (He was joking; there was obviously no room.)

I bought a number of interesting items in the dealers room, mostly books. I didn't attend any panels, due to lack of energy. There was a swarm of hall costumes, and the masquerade was very good. (I will post image files later.) Spoke with many people, ate too much junk food and had a good time overall.

I stayed an extra night and went to Dayton Monday morning to visit the Air Force Museum. I made an economic suicide run on the book store and took almost as many images of planes and such as the total number I took at MarCon (these probably won't be posted).

Traffic was very heavy going up, especially through Cincinnati, but unusually light the whole way back. I got home safely and earlier than expected late Monday afternoon.

Went to bed early last night, partly because I was tired from my trip but mostly because I had to get up early this morning. I had a contractor coming by sometime after eight to do some electrical work.

Guess which night the power went off?

Yep. A little after Midnight, I was awakened by the beeping of the UPSes. Power appeared to be off for the whole neighborhood. It stayed off for about forty-five minutes. Then I was able to go back to bed and resume my slumbers.

At 8:35 the contractor called. He apologized, and said he couldn't make it today, but would tomorrow at 9:00 be okay? I said yes. Now I am going to take a nap.

As I was paying for my groceries at Kroger's this afternoon, I noticed that they now have an automated DVD rental machine named Movie Cube. Which is shaped like a giant soda machine. In other words, not in any way cube-like unless you do some cutting.

I asked why it was called Movie Cube when it wasn't a cube. The only people who got it were a pair of employees who were even older than me. The woman just laughed; the man made a snide remark about someone being paid good money to come up with the name.
