My mother bought a new outside door for her living room about four years ago. Every 6 or 8 months since she's had me come over and adjust it. It has hinges which are screw adjustable for height and 'margin.' And, unfortunately, the adjustments have now reached the limits of their travels. I struggled with that door for over an hour, and at the end just had to force it closed so she could lock it and leave it until she could call a locksmith. I actually cracked one of the backing plates, trying to force the screw just a little farther.
I don't know who actually chose that style of door, but the guy who put it in (whom my mother says is impossible to contact) broke one of the hinge mounting screws off in its hole. I suspect he didn't bother truing the door, but just put everything together and adjusted the hinges until it would close and latch.
