Aircraft Crashes

In re. the crash in Florida yesterday of a commuter aircraft, note that witnesses of a plane crash almost always report explosion/fire/smoke, even when the crash was caused by the plane running out of fuel.

Perhaps whatever it crashed into caught fire?

I saw a video tape of it on this morning's news - there was very obviously something blazing, giving off black smoke, and falling - it was ... maybe five plane lengths above the water when the plane hit.
