I'm so angry I could spit.

I was told when preparing to retire that all my deductions - health care payments, Deferred Compensation, direct deposit to checking and savings - would all carry over. Except that when I went in to actually do the paperwork I had to fill out a form to deposit my retirement check into my checking account.

With that experience, I wasn't too surprised when I got my quarterly Credit Union statement and saw that there had been no deposits since I retired. I went down to the Credit Union, found out what paper I needed, went to Retirement Systems and got it, went home and had lunch, went back to the Credit Union to have the paper filled out and again to Retirement Systems to deliver the paperwork. They even made a copy for me. With all that done, the receptionist sat down to enter things into the computer.

"I want $500 put in my savings every check."

"Oh, we can't do that."

"Can't do what?"

"Can't split a check."

So, every month, I will have to write a personal check and go down to the Credit Union to deposit it. Argh...

I'm completely baffled whenever I hear of somebody still using checks. Don't you have direct deposit and electronic transfers over on the other side of the atlantic? I haven't touched a paper transaction in ten years, I think...

That's the problem. I _had_ direct deposit for both checking and savings, but the retirement people will only direct deposit into one or the other. I tell ya', they're livin' in the *stone age*...

Most of my credit union accounts have a telephone access (and/or web access) that can be used to verify checks, deposits, balances, etc. and which can also be used to move money from one account to another.

Darn stupid that they can't split a check. I've never wanted it, but that was something the spouse used to do, but I think something happened and it's not possible any more.

Our credit union can do an automatic transfer after the direct deposit of my check. It happens every month.

I also have an ING account that automatically sucks out a transfer on the first of every month.

You ought to be able to do one of these....

I'll check with the bank to see if they'll transfer a set amount each month into my savings (which are at another institution).
