Water Matter

stickmakerHaving a bit of end-of-year excitement. Went out to check my mail and noticed the hydrant in the yard of my downhill neighbor was tilted. Checked, and it has a lot of grey transfer, with a muddy tire track leading away. I suspect someone came up Lilly, turned left at too high a speed onto Cline and went into her yard.
I don't know when this happened. I didn't hear anything. The neighbor's van was in her driveway until about half an hour before I noticed the hydrant, blocking my view. The damage may have happened after she left (the hydrant is tipped the wrong way for her to have caused the problem) or maybe last night.
I called 911 to report the damage. A couple of fire department guys came by within a few minutes, checking for leaks. They didn't find any. One of them checked liquid on the road which I thought was water and announced that it was oil. So whoever hit this may have broken something significant underneath. They reported the damage to the plant board, who may or may not be out this evening.
The hydrant isn't just tilted but also pushed to one side. I suspected it pivoted around the pipe, which is pretty deep there. (I watched them install this hydrant a couple of years ago.) The lack of leaks is surprising. At the very least, the guilty part will have a significant dent somewhere in their vehicle.
I just hope the plant board doesn't have our water cut off tonight.

The Frankfort Plant Board has already done something about that hydrant!
They put a safety cone beside it.
