He was married to my Dad's younger sister, Alice, and was a jovial figure from my childhood, not seen much in recent years. (Yes, I know there are echoes of _The Honeymooners_ in those names.)
My Dad's family liked to get together several times a year, so we kept in touch. Of course, with time came attrition. Now, there's just Alice left, and she has serious kidney problems. The death of her husband will hit her hard.
It's sad, but Alice and Ralph were already in their late seventies and had full lives. Most in Dad's family lived that long or longer, and they weren't unadventurous people.
