John Paul II did have a sense of humor. Which makes me wonder if he was ever tempted to call himself George Ringo I.

Well, I know that a lot of people were hoping Benedict XVI would have chosen George Ringo I. And there was one acquaintance that pointed out that somewhere around 945, we had a pope named Lando, and he thought it was time for Lando II.
