My mother has been talking for over a month about getting a new TV. At first it was to replace the nearly-new one in her family room. Something about the sound being bad. There is, indeed, an occasional odd change in the sound, but otherwise it's a great TV, and digital ready.

So, a couple of days ago, my mother gave her bedroom TV - an older CRT - to my youngest niece. Today I went with her to Wal-Mart to get a new flatscreen for her bedroom.

My mother got her TV. I kept trying to convince her it was too small, but she said 'The old one was a 19 inch, this one's a 19 inch, they're the same size.' When I tried to explain the old one was nearly square (TV format) and this one rectangular (movie format) she changed the subject. Sure enough, as soon as I had it in place she frowned and said 'It looks smaller than the old one.'

At least it was inexpensive.

Did you say something simple like, "This 19 inch is smaller than your old 19 inch, because of the math they are using."? That is the only explanation some people need... not everyone wants to know exactly WHY.
