Crescendin (which I've decided on, at least for now) was a military code name for the drug, which was retained to the present. This came from many of the test subjects - after recovering from the hallucinations - reporting that they had a climactic moment during the experience (a "crescendo," as one of them put it). The "formal" name for the core component is Para-Ergot, because it is an ergot analog. (Ergot is weird stuff all by itself.)
Yeah, Trigger is a great street drug name. :-) Can you imagine how much more it would be restricted - and the efforts which would be made to contain it - since some of those who use it gain super powers? The conservative - and even liberal - hysteria? However, I'm assuming for the background that the stuff is difficult to synthesize. It could still be found, but would be rare and expensive. I _want_ superhumans to be rare in this world.
