Sleep Stuff

Due to a confluence of events I arrived at Friday evening needing much sleep. Unfortunately, some operations on my iMac required me to stay up late. No problem; I'd just sleep later Saturday morning. 

I awoke about 7:30 AM Saturday with a full bladder. I got up, attended to biology, fed the cats and let them out, tended to some other biological needs, listened to the hourly news, and settled down to get back to sleep.

Ten minutes later the phone rang. It was my Mother. 

"This thing outside my bedroom door has been beeping since just after 5:00!"

She meant the smoke alarm. I needed to ask three times whether it was giving an alarm or just the low-battery beep before she actually answered the question. Fortunately, it was just the low-battery beep. Then she started complaining about how her batteries were expired. Turned out she had switched to talking about her hearing aids without telling me. (Or maybe I was just so sleepy I missed the topic change.) She had some other complaints too. Now, she was also short on sleep so I can't place too much blame on her for not being clear and concise. Still...

I gave up on sleep, got up and had breakfast, then went over to her place. Replaced the smoke alarm battery. Checked her new TV (couldn't find anything wrong, and she couldn't repro the problem) and unplugged her electric blanket controller (we took that blanket off months ago, but I didn't think about the controller until she complained it was blinking that same morning). Finally done, I went back home. 

I tried napping after lunch, with no success. That evening, still in zombie mode, I opted to listen to our online gaming session rather than participate. Then went to bed early.

I slept over 10 hours. 

I'm feeling pretty good at the moment. I just hope I can get to sleep when I need to tonight. I have several important things to do tomorrow.
