Chase had me alarmed for several hours today. I got an e-mail notice to check my online account, and then couldn't log in. I eventually got into my account a few hours later - after a lot of still-unexplained rigamarole which included creating a new password - and found there was a charge with today's date and a blank Description field. I thought my account had been hacked and asked them to check the matter. I then examined my physical records.

Turns out the charge was for a check I wrote on my account over a week ago. Not today. To a specific company. Which it turns out they very well knew the name of, when I called to tell them the charge was valid. They just couldn't be bothered to put that name in the Description field, like they did with every other charge on that page!

Telling Chase the charge was valid was not easy. I tried at first online, which was like pulling my own teeth to accomplish, only to get a message after I hit Send that their message service was down and try again later. No way to go back and copy the message, which was now lost in the ether.

Ah, well; I did eventually tell them by both phone and their own message function to pay the charge. I just hope they actually do...
