Crankin' 'Em Out!
Jul. 12th, 2012 04:17 pmFinally got my Marlin lever-action carbine in .357 Magnum working again. Went out to the range today and tried it with two commercial .357 loads, three .38 Special loads and one hand load of mine in .357.
The rifle shot to different points of aim with the different loads - sometimes very different points of aim - but all of them except one gave tight groups. My .357 Magnum carbine load (180 grain JSP in front of 10 grains of Blue Dot) shot into an inch at 25 yards one inch high and two left. I even fired a shot at a large chunk of limestone beyond the 125 yard target board offhand (standing, no rest or brace) and hit it in one try. It's even a mild load for a .357.
The bead is missing from the front sight. The screw holding the front forearm band in place won't tighten. It's got some patches of rust on the finish, one of them quite noticeable. I love it.
