Apr. 24th, 2012 09:29 amCable guy came out and checked things. He said I should have a connection. The cable modem is working, they can see it in the office, it's just not handshaking properly. He described what his phone contact told him as "hunting."
There was a system-wide problem of some sort Saturday, when I noticed my Internet connection and TV were out. They've been running around ever since, correcting the problems that caused. Presumably including cable modems not working properly.
It is an older modem - I've had it roughly a decade - and he says they've been having problems with older ones since they upgraded service.
They no longer supply cable modems. He did try a filter in-line with the cable where it attaches to the modem, which improved the signal-to-noise, and said to use it with the new one. I was already planning to go to Wal-Mart after lunch. Will just add a new Motorola Surfboard to the list.
