Seriously...
Jan. 21st, 2011 11:39 amWent out to shovel my front walk and driveway, and there's a kid standing in the street. Boy, maybe sixteen or seventeen, wearing jeans, light athletic shoes and a much too large, sleeveless T-shirt.
Have I mentioned there was a heavy snow last night, and temps are still well below freezing?
He's just standing there, in the street, arms tucked into the thin shirt, occasionally stamping his feet, obviously cold. Talking to himself. He'd also occasionally turn and glare at me. I was worried about him, but afraid to approach.
I figured if he was still there when I finished I'd call the cops to come get him, 'cause he obviously was not sane and a danger to himself, and probably others.
As I worked I kept an eye on him. Occasionally, he'd walk a few paces. He also would step - just barely - out of the way of cars using the street... then step back out into the middle. He got to the cross street, stood there, in the middle of that, for several minutes, then turned around.
That's when I noticed he had one of those ear-clip cell phones on his right ear. He was complaining to someone about having to wait in the cold, and asking where they were.
Finally, he turned and began walking up the street, passing me and going on.
Not a minute later a pair of girls of a like age to the boy came hurrying by, calling after him. They were appropriately dressed for the weather.
So, he wasn't insane. Just really, really stupid.
