I had put off making repairs to two dripping faucets (kitchen sink and basement shower) because I knew these supposedly trivial operations would prove difficult, emotionally as well as physically.

I just finished, and am tired, damp and injured. My right hand aches. And (probably no connection) I'm very congested.

Actually replacing the worn washers was easy. Even the reassembly went well for the shower, and proved only mildly problematical for the sink. However, when I turned the water back on at the cut-off valve where the main comes into the basement, it dripped. And the valve out at the meter is frozen. By tightening the collar nut a bit I stopped the drip, but I worry about that valve. A bucket is currently under it.

After some minor fiddling the kitchen sink is fine. However, I'm only getting about half the previous volume from the shower. I took both valves back apart and fiddled a bit, then put them back together. Slight improvement. Several iterations later, I may have enough flow to actually take a shower, which I will check later. No idea what the source of the problem is. I may just need to work the valves some.

So, I'm finished for now (I really, really, really hope) but there's a promise of more later to get the shower working right. *Sigh...*
