Concolor - by brown cat - has been having thyroid and breathing (due to fluid buildup around one lung) problems
lately. He was doing better on medicine, but this morning he didn't show for his "treat" (Pill Pocket with medicine, and he loves those). Took a while, but I found him in the far corner of the basement, conscious but laying on the floor and having difficulty breathing. Don't know how long he'd been like that.

I immediately took him to the vet. Con was the second cat in respiratory distress to come in that morning, and they were also dealing with a choking dog. I'm coughing and panting when outside; apparently, something is blooming. I know Con has allergies, and if those are bad on top of the fluid buildup around one lung...

I had to leave him. They promised they'd give him O2 and check him out (including X-rays) and let me know. So I'm staying near the phone.

Well, Concolor didn't make it. They put him on O2, confirmed by X-ray that the immediate problem was fluid buildup and prepared to drain it. However, when they started the anesthesia he crashed and died. The vet did sample the fluid and said it was milky, indicative of a cancer somewhere. I actually suspected this, given his thyroid problems.

He went downhill so quickly (he seemed fine last night) that I am sad that he died, but not really surprised.
