I'm working on a Joy of High Tech on the history of temperature measurement. This was the last of the classical physical qualities to be objectively measured. Not only is the column on the history of temperature measurement, but on the attempts to find the hottest and coldest places on Earth and in the lab, once there was a reproducible method.
