So Tired...
Feb. 9th, 2020 03:26 pmSomeone called at least 5 times from a 150 Area Code last night, speaking a language I don't recognize. I say "at least" because for some reason most of these calls didn't register on my Caller ID!
The first one I know of came just after I got home from gaming last night, about 12:30. The phone rang twice. I didn't recognize the number, the name was given as Unknown Name. Another call came from the same number shortly after. This time the caller said something before hanging up, just before the answering machine started recording. I didn't recognize the voice or the language, but didn't have a large sample to work from. Figuring it was a wrong number and after two tries they'd check and call the right one, I went to bed.
I woke from a sound sleep a bit after 5 as the phone rang again. The only valid calls that late are from my elderly mother or the hospital where she was taken. Nope; that same number. Snarling, I went back to bed.
Rinse and repeat a bit after 9, though this time the caller left several seconds of message - again in a language I didn't recognize - before hanging up. I was exhausted, but it was late enough I decided to just stay up. Which turned out to be wise, as two more of those calls came in, one of them while I was feeding the cats.
There are scams from the 150 Area Code where someone calls and immediately hangs up, trying to get the victim to call back, incurring large charges. These didn't quite fit that pattern. I figure it probably was a scam of some sort, but might simply have been an unusually stupid wrong number caller. Either way, I reported them to the FCC.
At any rate, these calls pretty much scuttled most of my plans for the day. I'm too sleepy to work on my taxes or go to the grocery or even do much writing. So I'm watching TV and reading, mostly. Will get to bed early tonight. (I hope.)
