stickmaker: (Default)
Okay, waited until today to take my car to Goodyear for tire, brake and suspension check. Retirement check was direct deposited yesterday and I paid the most expensive bills for the month already. So, tire rotation and balancing are free, brakes and discs are fine, but the front suspension had some excessive play in a couple of parts (which I suspected). They didn't have the parts, but were able to get them in from a store in a nearby town, which took over an hour. Got done for a little under a thousand dollars and got home, barely before the really heavy traffic from the state offices getting out began. Fed the cats and started to hand wash the pot and stirrer for my new bread machine, which was waiting on the porch when I got home.

No hot water. Pilot light is out on water heater. I can light the pilot, but it won't stay lit. Called the plumbers' office which installed it. The guy I talked to said it sounded like the (something ) valve. The office is closed for the week, and they don't have that part anyway (six year old water heater). Called manufacturer. Good news is that the heater is still under warranty - barely - so the (something) valve is free. Shipping to get it to me "by the end of the business day Monday" is under $23. Not horrible, just don't like the delay. Also, I had a appointment for car servicing at Paul Miller Ford in Lexington, Monday, and when I tried to cancel their Web page had died. (I later was able to make the cancellation.)

This account does not mention the problems with laying on the cold, concrete floor trying to light the pilot with my new cat "helping." Nor the fact that my plug-in utility light has mysteriously vanished. Nor that I wanted to wash dishes, clothes and myself this weekend (that last is not a huge problem; my Mother lives less than 10 minutes away). Nor that when I went to get my big, friendly, brown cat in for the night that he was having a standoff with another big, friendly, brown cat. In the dim light I had trouble telling which was which. I *think* I got the right one in. :-)

No idea whether I'll go to gaming tomorrow. Right now I'm exhausted from multiple unexpected events, many of them unpleasant. I still haven't washed the parts of the new breadmaker, yet. Will have to heat some water for the wash, then try it tomorrow.
