Startup Troubles Today

At the login page on my iMac this morning after boot I had a message that there was no Bluetooth keyboard. My keyboard is USB and Bluetooth isn't normally turned on. The keyboard wasn't working; neither was my Logitech mouse, which is wireless but uses a USB dongle plugged into a slot on the keyboard. Also, the caps lock light on the keyboard was on and wouldn't go off. However, my older mouse - USB through cable using a different port - was working.
I unplugged the keyboard from the rear of the iMac, waited a few, plugged it back in. All was well.
So it looks like something involving the keyboard - which I've had for years and never seen this problem before - froze.
