I Am Exhausted
Oct. 2nd, 2011 11:39 pmI had planned to spend most of the day scanning negatives from a specific convention, RiverCon XXII (1997). I needed two hours to get started. Because the old version of the scanner software would tell me when there was something wrong with the scanner (turned out the USB cable pulled loose when I moved the scanner) but the new version just closes itself. I therefore thought the problem was with the software (in a way, it was) until I tried the old version. Even then, I checked the power button and on light before realizing the cable was unplugged.
When I finally started scanning, I found that one of the two rolls of film had been mislabeled. Not only was it from a different fannish event, it had already been scanned! (Fortunately, I only scanned three frames before realizing they looked familiar.) I got the one roll successfully scanned, but have no idea where the rest of the images for that con are.
Anyway, that's just one example of the problems. The computer has been running slow (despite a restart), my Internet connection has been running slow, and basically I literally have a scratch throat and sore chest from screaming at the things.
I probably would have handled things better, but in the wee hours of the morning someone started periodically blowing their car horn in front of the neighbor's house. After about fifteen minutes one of the neighbors came out and spent a couple of minutes screaming profanity at the culprit. So I'm short on sleep and irritable.
I tried to buy the upgrade to Lion, but apparently Apple doesn't want my money. They make it very difficult to find where to buy - even hiding the BUY link once you finally get to the right App Store page - and after an hour of watching the spinning wheel with no change I am giving up for the night.
Supper was wonderful: Homemade beef noodle soup. That was pretty much the high point of the day
