Customer Dissatisfaction
Dec. 11th, 2009 10:57 amI will never buy another Western Digital product.
Less than a year ago I purchased one of their outboard drives to use with Time Machine on my iMac. It died a bit over a month ago, probably due to a mistake on my part. Trying to contact WD for returning it was like pulling my own teeth. Among other problems, they would not recognize the user ID and password I created when I registered the drive.
I checked Apple, and they still recommended WD products. Prices had come down, so I figured I'd buy a new, larger drive, and get the broken one repaired later. Again, I had to re-establish my user ID and password. I ordered the drive and received an e-mail acknowledgment. Shortly after I received notice that the order had been processed. Then nothing.
After two weeks I contacted them. No easy feat, that! Again, they had forgotten my ID and password. Once I got logged in, finding contact information required repeatedly exploring the site (their Help was no help) until I finally found the form.
Another week plus went by. I received notice they were checking into the problem. Finally, yesterday I got a message the drive had shipped. It arrived via UPS this morning.
The physical process of installing it went fine. Then I tried to register it. *Again* I had to establish a new ID and password.
I still haven't even started using the drive, except to open the "virtual CD" and look at the manual.
