Conventional Wisdom

The cliche is that during WWII the British achieved high performance for their military aircraft through brilliant flourishes, the Germans through painstaking attention to detail, the US through brute force and the Russians through copying British, German or US designs. :-)

While there are many exceptions to the cliche, there is also a more than a bit of truth to it.
