Mysterious Home Repairs

stickmakerWhile I was on the john this morning I kept hearing muffled thumps. So muffled I couldn't tell where they were coming from. By the time I finished, of course, the noises had stopped. I figured one or the other neighbor had been doing something.
About an hour later, when I opened the front door to put a rinsed-out milk jug in the recycle bin, I found a bill tucked between the screen door and frame. From the roofer I'd had by for an estimate the week before. For the work he'd said he couldn't get to for two weeks because he needed to have some custom metal work done. The bill was for the newly-installed , custom-formed metal chimney cap.
I stepped out into the street and, sure enough, there's a right handsome chimney cap up there.
Mystery solved. But, my, does that guy move quiet. :-)
