Fictional Turnaround

What if the monster from "Who Goes There?"/The Thing/The Thing From Another World weren't a crew member of the crashed alien craft, but a pet or biological specimen?

As just one example of how a pet could be hazardous, ordinary hogs escaped from farms become dangerous boars. So, the pet is suddenly left without its masters and shoved into a strange, hostile environment. Long-dormant instincts manifest, and it behaves not only in a hostile manner, but begins trying to reproduce.

Poor Thing... :-)

There's a letter in an old Astounding that's buried in my collection. Seems the crew of an isolated station on the DEW line were bored and on of them read "Who Goes There?" aloud one night.

They almost jumped their reliefs because they were so spooked. :-)
