Buh?!

Okay, this is weird. The FBI is sending out letters (to military surplus retailers, firearms dealers, feed stores, fertilizer stores and hotels and motels, mostly in Colorado) asking businesses to report large purchases of weatherproof match containers, MREs, night vision devices, 'night' flashlights, gas masks and a short list of firearms accessories. So, they're targeting hunters and hikers, now? As well as people who follow federal government recommendations to stockpile emergency supplies?

Supposedly, this is a profiling measure to find terrorists, with Neo-NAZI and anti-Semitic groups specified. Like most profiling measures, it appears the official targets will be swamped in the false positives.

Waterproof match containers are also popular with geocachers as most are a nice, dark green that blends in well with vegetation and being waterproof, the log won't get wet.

So what do they consider large purchases in these guidelines?

I haven't seen any of the flyers, and the only amount reported was "bulk."

So someone who does lawn care on the side, uses a fuel-efficient diesel mower, and likes to hunt and camp is screwed...

And what if these retailers say "no" when asked?
