stickmaker: (Runner is hot)
There is considerable research going on into ADHD (which when I was a kid was called hyperactivity). Some of that research points to general inflammation as at least a contributing factor. There are many things which can cause inflammation; one of them is allergies.

From personal experience I know that when in places where there are major sources of my allergens - such as Cincinnati - my own ADHD is worse. If I'm not careful about dosing with antihistamines I can actually feel (and, on reflection, realize I acted) stoned.

The situation is not a simple one. I can become hyperactive, or lethargic. I can become unusually gregarious or borderline autistic. (I use that word deliberately, since there may be a connection between autism and ADHD. What I mean is that I become asocial, barely responding to - and sometimes completely ignoring - communications attempts.)

I am fortunate that my problems - including the probably associated horrible memory - are not particularly bad. That doesn't mean I don't want to improve things. I just hope others realized I'm not "acting weird" on purpose.
