Roger Rabbit
Apr. 2nd, 2009 10:03 pmToday, with CGI being used even in non-fantasy movies, people forget the impact of _Who Framed Roger Rabbit_. Yeah, there had been movies mixing live action and animation before, but this production fully blended the two worlds. The result is still spectacular.
I remember seeing a friend standing outside the movie room at a WorldCon where _Roger Rabbit_ was about to start. He was ambivalent about actually going in. Sure, he'd heard of it, but how good could it be? I'd seen it already, and urged him to see it. So he stood in the wide-open double doors and watched.
Okay, yeah, opening cartoon, full animation, good stuff, but nothing special...
Then the director yelled "Cut!" _and walked onto the animated short set to berate Roger, interacting with the animated characters as if they were physically present_.
My friend's mouth dropped open for several seconds. Then he began swearing softly. Then went inside and sat down. He never complained about me persuading him to watch that movie. :-)
